About Academy of Martial Arts Shotokan
Academy of Martial Arts Shotokan has been offering instruction and training in karate in the Bay Area since 1989. Located in South San Francisco, California, Academy of Martial Arts Shotokan has produced champions in life as well as in the martial arts.
Headed by a staff of expert instructors and managers, Academy of Martial Arts Shotokan offers a number of programs for physical fitness and instruction in Karate.

Academy of Martial Arts Shotokan (AMAS) is a member of the
International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) . The chief instructor of ISKF is
Shihan Teruyuki Okazaki, 10th dan (photo, center), a direct student of Master Gichin Funakoshi, founder of Shotokan Karate. Shihan Okazaki along with
Shihan Yutaka Yaguchi 9th dan (photo, right), are co-founders of ISKF which was established in 1977. As of this day, there are over 50,000 ISKF members worldwide and more countries are joining to be a part of this prestigious traditional Shotokan Karate organization.
Membership in ISKF ensures your training meets the highest standards in Shotokan karate training. Your belt rank is recognized by ISKF clubs all over the world. Should you relocate to another state or country, you can continue your training at an ISKF club and at your current rank. Since ISKF is a recognized and respected Shotokan Karate organization, other karate organizations may also honor your current rank.
ISKF offers weekend training camps taught by professional karate instructors. All students are welcome to experience these camps which is offered within the United States and other countries.
ISKF holds an annual National karate tournament wherein ISKF members are welcome to participate. AMAS along with WWSKC from Seattle, were honored in hosting the 29th annual ISKF National tournament in 2007 that was held at the San Francisco Airport Marriott hotel located in Burlingame. Every year the National tournament is held in a different city in the United States. The ISKF World Shoto Cup tournament and the ISKF Pan American tournament are held every four years, alternating every two years.
ISKF follows the Dojo Kun and Niju Kun principles which were created by Master Gichin Funakoshi. These principles guide karate practitioners to help them understand the true meaning of karate and to apply them in their daily lives.
